Our family moved to Hillsboro from Cambridge, Minnesota. My wife, Carol, teaches English as a second language at Sunset Elementary School in Salina and we have three boys, Joel, Micah, & Levi. In my spare time I enjoy hunting, fishing, attending our children’s extracurricular activities and spending time together as a family. My passion for the church is to provide the kind of leadership that God can use to continue to form us into a Biblically functioning community that cares deeply for one another and is devoted to the mission God has given us to share His love and truth with the world around us. My sincere hope is that with God’s help we will increasingly grow toward reaching our full redemptive potential as a church. In preparation for ministry I received a Bachelors of Science in Christian Education from Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska and have completed my Masters of Divinity from Bethel Seminary, St. Paul, MN. We’re very grateful that God has called us to serve at HMBC and we look forward to the ways in which He will continue to shape us into all He desires us to be.

I was born in Hillsboro, KS and graduated from Tabor College with a degree in Business Education.  I have taught business classes at Central Christian High in Hutchinson, KS for 4 years, as well as coached the high school girls’ basketball team.  I became a stay-at-home mom when David and Nathan, now attending Tabor College, were born.  With husband, Brad, we served as adult and youth teachers at the Zoar M.B. Church in Inman, KS for 12 years before moving to Hillsboro.  We began attending the Hillsboro M.B. Church in January of 1998 where I have served as a high school girls’ Sunday school teacher and teacher for various children’s classes.  I have also served on the Christian Education Team for many years.  My life took an exciting turn when God called me to be on staff at Hillsboro M.B. as Christian Education Coordinator in February of 2007.  I received my Board Certified Biblical Counselor certificate in April of 2008 and continue to look forward to the things which God has in store for me as I work together with both the children and adult ministries.

I grew up in Chapman, KS with my parents and three older sisters where I lived out the ‘loud’ and ‘center-of-attention’ stereotypes of a youngest child. I met, but did not date, my husband, Lee, when I attended Tabor College from 2004-2006. I transferred to Azusa Pacific University in California for my junior and senior year and graduated with a BA in Communication Studies in May 2008. Shortly after graduation, Lee and I reconnected at our best friends’ wedding and we were married exactly a year later.

Lee was a Junior High Youth Pastor at Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church in Reedley, California while I did some part-time jobs, worked on my Masters of Public Administration, and became a stay-at-home mom when our daughter Lydia Jane was born in July 2010. We moved back to HIllsboro when Lee took the Director of Admissions position at Tabor College in August 2011 and I completed my masters program with an emphasis in Non-Profit Management and Leadership just four months later. We immediately got plugged in to the amazing church body at HMBC and together we served as volunteers in the high school ministry program for a little less than a year before I became the Youth Pastor in July 2012. I will be continuing my education in Youth Ministry and Seminary.

I love Hillsboro and could not be more thankful for where God has brought my family. I work with Junior High and High School students because I believe God has called me to this ministry--it’s just a perk that I think they are totally awesome human beings and love any opportunity to be silly with them. My ‘life verses’ are Isaiah 30:15-21. “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength. . . .Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying “This is the way; walk in it.”

I have been serving at Hillsboro M.B. Church since fall 1997 as Worship Leader.  I never dreamed that God would give me this opportunity to direct a talented choir and plan and lead worship regularly.  I thank God for giving me this privilege.  My goal is to provide meaningful and expressive worship experiences for God’s glory.  I am married to Janell, and have five children, Benjamin, Emma, Elise, Claire, and MaryElena—ranging from elementary school to college graduate!  I have a full-time job as chemistry professor at Tabor College, and in the brief moments of my spare time, I like to cook, read, and spend time with family.  I rely on God for strength and one of my favorite verses is Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
